How to Pay for College

FAFSA

The Free Application for Federal Student Aid  (FAFSA) is a form that can be prepared annually by current and prospective college students (undergraduate and graduate) in the United States to determine their eligibility for student financial aid. Complete the FAFSA at fafsa.gov. You can start applying on October 1st.

 

Scholarship Information

Scholarships are a great way to help defray the cost of post-secondary education.  Merit scholarships are based on grades (and college entrance exams) and there is no application. There are a vast number of other scholarships. Students need to APPLY in order to get these scholarships. Please watch for DEADLINES! You should never pay for a scholarship.

*Lake Havasu Community Scholarship (only for LHHS students): Visit the Career Center (deadline is in December)

Western Undergraduate Exchange

Provides an opportunity for students to attend a public college outside of Arizona for a reduced level of tuition (150% of the host institution's resident tuition). The WICHE member states are Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Commonwealth of Northern Mariana Islands, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oregon, South Dakota, Utah, Washington, and Wyoming.  Interested applicants should visit the website to search participating institutions by program of study. 

 

Applying for College

Common App

Common App is a non-profit college access organization that helps students apply to college every year. Common App’s free college application tool is designed to make applying to college faster and easier. With Common App, you only need to use one system to apply to multiple colleges and universities. There are two main parts you fill out: a set of common questions and each college’s own specific questions. The best part is you only have to fill out the common questions one time!
